Cell Over Satellite ($350/mo)

What is Cell Over Satellite Service?

Cell Over Satellite installs a small satellite dish at your facility or campus. The dish is connected to the internet in another part of the country, typically more than 1,000 miles away. The internet over satellite service can be extended throughout your entire facility wirelessly using your existing Wi-Fi access points.

You could be in California but your mobile device will be connected to your wireless provider's network in Missouri, thereby bypassing failed towers, network overcrowding, infrastructure failure and any number of regional issues.

The satellite connection at your facility is monitored 24/7. If your connection to the satellite goes down, you are notified. You are also sent up-time analytic reports that show any downtime.

FAQs

Who are your COMPETITORS?
The answer is, we have NO competitors. Rather than believe the words found on a potential vendor's website, it might be better if we helped you research. To assist you here are some recent links.

How does Cell‐Over‐Satellite service compare with adding a couple of satellite phones?

What is the quality of a voice call over satellite?

Not as good as a normal call on a landline or a cell phone. Due to the latency it can be choppy at first, but you can communicate effectively. Schedule a satellite call with us to check the call quality. The quality gets better every year. Keep in mind that a one minute voice call uses the same bandwidth as 500 text messages. If you can text message or email, that is always preferred.

How will I know if my smartphone is actually connecting to satellite?

The easiest way to see if you are actually on a satellite network is to use an app similar to speedtest.net. It will provide you with the following information; Download Speed, Upload Speed, Satellite Network Provider, Server Location (city only), and IP address.

How many cell phones can talk, text or email at the same time?

On a single satellite connection you can make between 25 to 50 voice calls at one time. Keep in mind that voice traffic consumes bandwidth like nothing else. A one minute phone call is equivalent to 500 text messages or emails.

How does the signal get to every cell phone on site/campus?

The satellite internet connection will spread throughout your facility using your existing Wi‐Fi access points on a dedicated SSID network. The label for users to see on their phones (SSID) should be something obvious like “Cell Over Satellite” or “Satellite Wi‐Fi”. The user needs to go to settings/Wi‐Fi on their device and select the satellite Wi‐Fi network.

What is the best way to inform/train our employees about accessing Cell Over Satellite service?

It is crucial to inform your people that you have a backup network in place before an outage or emergency. Below is the link to a flyer in in a Word document that you can distribute electronically to your people. You will need to edit the document to fit your circumstances.

Why is the Cell‐Over‐Satellite Monitored?

Statistics show that your satellite service will be up 99% of the time, but that is looking at it through the satellite providers eyes. How easy is it for someone to unknowingly unplug a modem or a CAT5 cable, particularly one that is only used as a backup solution. Satellite modems fail from time to time. Always remember the human factor because it comes into play more frequently than we suspect.

Cell Over Satellite has been providing backup communications since 2009. We have seen everything. The last thing you want, is to revert to your backup system and have it not working. You want your satellite connection monitored by an emergency preparedness provider. We will let you know if it ever stops working. This is a new feature and will be available in 2024.

Will the Cell‐Over‐Satellite solution connect to our existing network?

Ideally no, Cell Over Satellite is a backup service and is only used when there is a connection failure. By connecting this service to your main network it becomes susceptible to any network issues you may have including attacks.
